Palace started the New Year with another point, but we once again drew a blank in our draw at Villa Park against Aston Villa on New Years Day.

Keith Millen again led the side as Alan Pardew, the manager in waiting, watched on from the stands as we again failed to score but built on our away draw to end the year with another away draw to begin in, again a nil-nil one….

Once again we ‘dug in’ and showed another ‘gritty performance’ but couldn’t manage the breakthrough.

The closest we came, either side really, was Bolasie’s drive which smacked against the crossbar to prevent us collecting a crucial three-points, but a point isn’t a bad point when you’re away from home. With just the ‘keeper to beat as the winger burst through he’ll feel he should have done better though.

Villa’s best chances to win the game came through Hutton and Bacuna, but Speroni was equal to these, saving from Hutton at point blank range with the usually so lethal Belgian international Benteke spurned a ‘golden opportunity’ to give the hosts the win.
