Caretaker Keith Millen has again confirmed he feels ready to take the Crystal Palace job on a permanent basis, and he’s also given his reaction to today’s draw against Queens Park Rangers.

In quotes carried by London24 Millen explained that obviously it was up to Steve Parish, but he wanted the job and he felt the players respected him enough for him to make a success of it.

‘I’m ready for it. I think the players respect me. I’ve done it enough times, I’ve managed before and I enjoy working for the club. The chairman may feel he needs more experience or wants to see what names are available because it’s a vital time now.’

Millen also confirmed that with no replacement for Neil Warnock directly lined up, he doesn’t know how long he’ll be in charge for this time round but also said with all attentions turning to the fixture list given how games come at this period of time, he hasn’t yet sat down with Steve Parish and had a proper conversation about the job but that will no doubt be done at the appropriate time.

With Millen throwing his hat into the ring and talking about how he’s worked with the players for the last few years and his belief that he knows what makes the tick, defender Joel Ward had confidence in Millen making the step up.

‘There’s no doubt he could do that. We’ll back him, we’ll play under him and he knows the structure. That gives us the direction to move forward and build on performances and build some momentum.’

Ward goes on to say that obviously he knows the lads and he knows their characters, so that would be a strength and a positive for him, but until then he knows the team just have to do all they can to turn our form around.

Returning to Millen and today’s point against QPR, he said he was very pleased with the performance the players put in.

‘I’ve got to give the lads a load of credit for a battling performance. I thought we stood up to QPR fantastically. We were all shocked by what happened yesterday but I’ve seen the lads resilience and I had no doubt they’d show up. We deserved at least a point. If we can continue like that, we’ll be okay. We need to score more goals, but if we keep that organisation, we’ll be ok.’
