New signing Jordan Mutch was left a disappointed man following his debut for Crystal Palace in our one nil loss to Everton.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the game, Mutch was obviously delighted to have made his bow so quickly after having joined us, but the result certainly wasn’t what he wanted.

‘It was disappointing to go a goal behind so early, we created a lot of chances in the first half to try and get back into the game and unfortunately it didn’t happen and we have to kick on again next week. We put them under a lot of pressure but when they went 1-0 up they kept a good shape and it was unfortunate we couldn’t get back in it.’

Mutch adds that it was disappointed given the good chances we had, because he wasn’t alone in believing we’d get back into the game and at least take a point for our efforts, but come the full time whistle that was something we couldn’t actually manage.

With Marouane Chamakh leaving after 25 minutes with a suspected broken nose, it gave Mutch the chance for his debut substitute appearance, and whilst he admits he’d have preferred to have not replaced an injured colleague, it did mean he got the chance earlier than expected so the 23 year old was obviously pleased about that.

‘It was a nasty one with Chamakh and I hope he’s okay but it was great to get on the pitch early and make my debut. He (Pardew) just told me to go out there and express myself. It’s a new start so to also enjoy myself and play with a lot of energy.’

Having talked about wanting to experience the Selhurst atmosphere as a Palace player when he made his move, he said the fans were ‘awesome’ on the day so he can’t wait now to make his next appearance on home soil – but next time hopefully getting a better result.
