Manager Alan Pardew had a few mixed emotions following our hosting of his former club Newcastle United last night.

Speaking to the press following the game, he was pretty pleased with the reception he got and he was obviously pleased to have seen Fraizer Campbell get us the equaliser in the game – but he wasn’t happy we conceded the early goal.

‘Every point is like gold dust in the Premier League, it’s difficult because Newcastle defended really well and made it difficult for us. They scored with their only shot on target and put us on the back foot. I was really pleased with our reaction in the second half, we took the game to Newcastle, took a few chances, but it was the bench that salvaged the game for us. Yannick’s cross was of the highest order.’

Pardew went on to say that with the room he had on the wing at the point Bolasie ‘had no right’ to put in a ball of that quality and that just made the equaliser a fantastic goal as Campbell got on the end of it.

‘It was a great goal for us and gave us time to try and get the winner. There was only going to be one winner at that point but we just couldn’t force the goal, and Tim Krul made a great save from Brede Hangeland.’

With the FA Cup game up next, Pardew praised the fans, saying he was ‘enjoying himself here’ and whilst we couldn’t return three points last night he’s hoping that on a ‘great occasion’ this weekend the players can give the fans a win.
