Manager Alan Pardew has said he won’t be fazed by any ill feeling from the Charlton fans in our Capital One Cup clash following his time with them as a player and a manager in former years.

Speaking to the media in his pre game press conference ahead of the match, Pardew explained that he was paying no mind to what might be ‘bad feelings’ from their fans in the game as we host them in the competition because his only focus is on ensuring we get through to the next round.

‘It is part and parcel of the game. It did not work out for me or Charlton, unfortunately, as much as I tried. Therefore, if they have bad feelings about that there is nothing I can do. All I can do is try and create the best team I can in the job that I am in.’

Speaking about the game a little bit more specifically, the gaffer went on to say that whilst changes can be expected for the match by the fans, he intends on sending out a strong side nontheless because this is a competition he wants a run in this year.

Obviously the derby element means we won’t be taking it lightly or taking major risks with who we pick either.

‘I just think that it is a game which is important for both sets of fans. It is a derby, it is two clubs that have had some history. I am obviously part of that history as well ? so there will be a lot of feeling about the game. It is a game I am looking forward to.’

The Croydon Advertiser also carry quotes from Bakary Sako who gives his impressions on the side that Pardew will pick for the game – knowing full well how seriously the gaffer is taking it.

hinted he will play a strong side against Charlton Athletic in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

That’s according to midfielder Bakary Sako, who wants the Eagles to return to winnings ways after back-to-back league defeats.

‘The gaffer has said he wants to play a good team to beat Charlton. We know it will be a tough game but we will keeping working hard to win this game. I am not the manager but maybe it will be a strong team.’

I’d expect plenty more from the gaffer in print later tonight or tomorrow when the fuller conference comments get cycled through.
