Having secured 48 points and a top ten finish for the club in 2014-15 Pardew knows this year will go down in the history books for a variety of reasons, but he now feels we can really kick on next year given the base we now have.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the one nil victory over Swansea, he explained.

‘When I arrived here the club was in a difficult position, but there was no shortage of quality or character and my goodness we have proved that. Over the last 18 games our record has been phenomenal and none of the top teams’ record is better.’

As for finishing tenth he admits he never dreamt of that when coming here, but it’s a testament to how well we have done, the turnaround in our form but importantly the quality we have at the club moving forward.

‘It’s remarkable really to finish 10th, I’d never have dreamt that when I arrived. I wouldn’t have believed it if you had you told me at my first game in Dover this is where we would finish. My memories of that afternoon was the team bus being parked 300 yards away from the dressing rooms and we had to walk uphill to get there. I wasn’t used to that being manager of Newcastle!’

So all eyes to next season then, and that certainly figured in his post game press conference.

‘It’s been a great experience and we now need to kick on if we can. We’ll try to do that. The chairman has an extra £4million now, so he’s happy, but I’ll be trying to take very penny off him.’

Boosting him further when it comes to new signings, is the overall position the club find itself in because prospective signings will see that, will see us established in the league finishing in a comfortable position.

‘We’re in a good position because we don’t need to speculate, we just need to buy some quality. I hope players up and down the country and in Europe have seen the potential of this place. It’s a London club – the only club south of the river – and we can really kick on. I hope players want to come here.’
