Honestly there wasn’t any pun intended with that title!

Crystal Palace, like any other top club in the country, are always looking to add quality to the squad and this quality ranges from all ages with the future being taken into account on this occasion with Matthew Shevlin apparently arriving for a trial?

Shevlin, an A-level student plying his trade with Ballymena in the Irish Premiership, has come over to England to trial with Palace for a week as he looks to earn himself a professional contract with the Eagles.

The BBC reports him as ‘being tipped to make it as a full-time professional’ with him attracting the attentions of plenty of clubs.

Ballymena boss Glenn Ferguson says the 16-year-old is someone that’s remained ‘level-headed’ despite all the interest but he knows he’s got ‘a bright future’ ahead of him and if he has the chance of getting a professional deal with a Premier League club the Irish side aren’t going to ‘stand in his way.’

Ferguson’s quoted as saying.

‘We have had a lot of enquiries about him from cross-channel clubs. We are trying to manage it as best we can.

‘Matthew is a level-headed lad and his feet will stay in the ground. He has a bright future and we will certainly not stand in his way.

‘He is in our first team at 16 years of age and he is playing like a 25-year-old. If he keeps doing what he has been doing, he will go in the right direction.’

Palace have nothing to lose, and potentially a lot to gain, but taking a look at the striker.

It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this trial and if this proves successful what his future could be at Selhurst Park! Assuming, of course, he wants to come here?
