The Premier League season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Chelsea returned to winning ways to open up a seven point lead at the top of the Premier League with Tottenham up to 2nd. Swansea are bottom, below Sunderland and Hull – who did win.

Everton 4-0 Manchester City 13:30

Chelsea – even without Diego Costa – recorded a 3-0 win at Leicester in the last kick off on Saturday to ensure they would retain the minimum lead they went into the weekend with. The Blues reacted to defeat at Tottenham with the win at the King Power Stadium to keep the Foxes embroiled in a relegation battle in complete contrast to last season!
A sixth straight Tottenham win – when they thrashed West Brom 4-0 – saw Spurs move up to 2nd place on Saturday. Albion remained in 8th place but dropped further back on those above them.
Joey Barton marked his Premier League return for Burnley with the winning goal from the bench. His deflected freekick saw the Clarets to a 1-0 win against Southampton. This was a seventh win at Turf Moor this season with the Saints now losing four Premier League games in a row.
A first win in 10 – in Marco Silva’s first Premier League game in charge – saw Hull remain in the relegation zone on goal difference alone. Having been thrashed at AFC Bournemouth earlier in the season the Tigers came from behind to beat the Cherries 3-1 at the KCOM Stadium.
The Sunderland struggles continued though as they lost for a third game in four to drop to second bottom. A 3-1 win for Stoke at the Stadium of Light made it back-to-back wins for the Potters as they moved into the top 10.
With an element of fortune on the side of Arsenal the Gunners eventually came away from Swansea with a 4-0 win to make it three in four. Paul Clement’s first Premier League game in charge ended with Liberty Stadium disappointment for the Swans as they dropped to the bottom of the table once again.
It wasn’t quite the tribute to Graham Taylor that Watford would have hoped for at Vicarage Road as the Hornets – who are now without a win in six – played out a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough.
Sam Allardyce’s return to former club West Ham ended with the former England boss still seeking his first his first win with Crystal Palace. The Hammers – including a superb goal from Andy Carroll – ran out 3-0 winners at the London Stadium to end a two game losing run.
Everton recorded a third win in four – the other was a draw – when 7th place was consolidated after a 4-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday. Ademola Lookman – recently signed from Charlton – marked his debut with a goal within minutes of coming off the bench at Goodison Park. City’s second defeat in three saw Pep Guardiola’s side remain outside the Champions League places.
Had Manchester United won at Old Trafford – to make it seven in a row – they would have moved above their Manchester rivals. A late equaliser rescued a point against Liverpool who were on to return to 2nd place. As it was they dropped seven points behind leaders Chelsea and below Spurs on goal difference.
