Manager Neil Warnock has said he was disappointed with the opening stages of the game at the weekend, but he was pleased to take a point given how our performance eventually improved.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the one all draw, the manager explained.

‘The first twenty minutes was as bad as I have seen us play since I have been back at the club. We just couldn’t put too passes together in those early stages. We had to regroup but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy as I saw them batter Arsenal a few weeks ago.’

Warnock goes on to say that following that period though he felt we grew into the game and for him it was a ‘great response’ and even though the injury to Dwight Gayle was ‘unfortunate’ he was pleased with the job that James McArthur put in and for him we did start to look solid and far better moving forward.

‘After the penalty we had a great chance at 1-0 and as the game went I thought we could get all the points and showed my intent with the late change bringing Wilfried Zaha into the game.’

With Swansea taking the possession statistic quite comfortably in the game, the manager explained that he always expected they would given how they play so what he was pleased to see was the other elements to our play, staying tight, tracking people and trying to rush them into mistakes and then trying to make the most of our efforts at the other end as they came along.

‘Swansea are a team who control the game whoever they play, after the way the game started a lot of teams wouldn’t have come back but not us, we played some good football and looked a threat on the break. A little bit more quality at times and we might have taken all three points. We were fantastic, and once we got going we gave as good as we got. I am delighted with the outcome.’

With Marouane Chamakh effectively substituted before he saw red the manager went on to say he felt the referee handled it right but obviously Chamakh hangs on his every word.

‘You could see I have a lot of control over him as I had a word to calm him down and then he nearly got booked twice in the next two minutes! I think it shows I must learn the language but he is a great lad, very honest and hard working. Thankfully the referee dealt with the situation well and I did my bit making the change when I did.’
