Manager Neil Warnock was delighted to see Palace come from behind to take all three points against Liverpool yesterday.

A brace from Dwight Gayle and Mile Jedinak’s free kick returned all three points and Warnock knows that we can compete and beat anybody on our day if we play like that on a more consistent basis.

Speaking to the media following the game, the 65 year old gaffer was pleased with the response of the players to going behind early on as he admits it could’ve knocked the stuffing out of us, but instead it galvanised us in many ways.

‘The goal could have knocked the stuffing out of us really. We said we wanted to play but got caught by a simple goal. You can score too early sometimes. But the way we played, constructed not kick and rush, we created some good chances. I’m disappointed we didn’t score more. I think we’d have done that to most teams today. That’s just this league in general. If you take anyone lightly, you can get turned over. We can cause any team in the league problems if we play.’

The gaffer goes on to say obviously everybody was under some pressure given our last win was against Leicester back in September, but it should now lift everybody but it’s down to us to continue trying to improve and one thing we definitely need to sort out is keeping more clean sheets at the back.

‘We need to sort out clean sheets, Julian didn’t have too much to do but we conceded early doors again. One long ball and we ball watched and were punished. I’d love to get some clean sheet on board.’

With victory moving Palace up to 15th in the league, the manager also commented that half of the division are fighting against relegation this term and he believes that the January window will be key for around 12 teams battling at the bottom.

‘There are ten to twelve clubs scrambling around at the bottom. Everyone is the same. It’s not an easy time of year though the January window. Hopefully we can get a couple of signings in early doors, rather than have the scramble later on.’

Having joined us over the summer Warnock referenced the work we had done, but also said we’d been working on targets ‘ever since’ the summer deadline shut so he’s hoping that early work means we can get people in quickly and get them training so they can hopefully have a good impact, but he obviously doesn’t mention who his targets might be.
